In celebration of International Coastal Clean-Up Day and the arrival of Spring, Toyota South Africa Motors proudly completed its second annual beach cleanup at the Umbogintwini river mouth in Isipingo partnering with local NGO, Clean Surf Project.

Enthusiastic Toyota employees and contractors volunteered to tackle the beach cleanup. Their collective efforts resulted in the removal of more than 400 bags of trash, totalling approximately 2,700 kilograms. The range of items collected included plastic waste, clothing, shoes, toys, beverage bottles, and even animal carcasses.

Clean Surf Project’s Denzil van der Westhuizen extended his gratitude to Toyota South Africa Motors for the ongoing support of beach clean-up campaigns.

“We are incredibly thankful for these collaborations, which not only help clean the beach and river mouth but also allow us to engage with participants and share our knowledge about the ocean, proper waste disposal, recycling initiatives, and alternative solutions to combat plastic pollution. It was a beautiful morning with pleasant weather and a highly motivated team of Toyota employees and contractors, all eager to make a difference. A special thanks to those who went the extra mile to collect and separate plastic bottle caps, which will be donated to the Enviro Club at Umkomaas Primary School to support their ongoing initiative of collecting caps to gift a wheelchair to someone in need,”

says van der Westhuizen.

“This event not only reflects our corporate social responsibility goals but also supports Challenge 6 of our global 2050 Environmental Challenge dedicated to creating a future where society flourishes in harmony with nature. A healthier environment isn’t just a distant dream; it’s an exciting reality within our reach. Every cleanup effort showcases our dedication to creating a brighter, more sustainable future for all,”

says Dave Finch, Senior Vice President for Manufacturing.
