LG meets rapid requirement of HVAC at Clairwood Hospital transformation to tackle COVID-19
During a time where COVID-19 is the main topic of conversation, healthcare practitioners are furiously gearing up to deal with the crisis.
This involves equipping their facilities with tools and platforms that focus not only on the health and safety of their patients, but that ensure daily operations proceed as normal.
Clairwood Hospital and their commitment to serve their patients during the global pandemic stands testament to this. To combat the influx of affected COVID-19 cases, the hospital transformed their general wards into Intensive Care Units (ICUs), namely Isolation and Quarantine Wards.
The challenge, however, was that these wards were not equipped with the appropriate systems to adhere to the hygiene and maintenance requirements in which to treat ill patients.
That’s when LG Electronics proposed a hybrid package solution with a local AHU (Air Handling Unit) Manufacturer that uses optimum filtration levels to provide clean air inside the ICUs.
“Under the current pandemic circumstances leading to the urgent transformation of these wards, LG was able to offer quick delivery which helped secure the project,”
said LG Prabhjeet Singh Channa –Engineering Team Leader.
“We understood the severity of the matter and opted to install the units externally, allowing no working equipment inside these sanitised rooms. In doing so, it will make the troubleshooting and maintenance of these machines easier and without the need to step into the wards.”
Channa continues,
“We are also offering technical team support that provides on-site assistance for these units to finalise the commissioning before handing over the project.”
The air handling units in question are connected to LG’s state of the art VRF Multi V5 and are equipped with temperature and humidity sensors for precise monitoring and control.
Considering the salinity levels of the region, the units are manufactured with a factory coated corrosion resistance heat exchanger and auto dust removal to help extend the lifespan of the units with less load on the compressors.
With LG’s communication module, the units can be integrated with all types of DX-AHUs for either discharge air or for return air control. What’s more, both the UI (Universal Input) and Digital/Analog Output ports allow interlocking with various third-party devices like humidity CO2 sensors, differential pressure switches, operating statuses, alarms, emergency stop and more.
“As South Africans, we’re left feeling helpless in the current situation – not being able to assist our fellow countrymen as the pandemic sweeps across the globe. We’re, therefore, all the more thankful to be able to assist Clairwood Hospital in their efforts towards making a difference during this particularly difficult time,”
ends Channa.
