Mitsubishi drives generous donation of books for JOE lil’brary from Western Cape journalists
Western Cape members of the SA Guild of Motoring Journalists rose to the challenge from Mitsubishi Motors South Africa to help collect books for the JOE lil’brary charity.
The SAGMJ Western Cape branch donated mostly children’s books they do not use anymore after noticing the MMSA drive for book donations to be dropped at any Mitsubishi dealership countrywide.
This was in reaction to the MMSA Golf Day early in December where the JOE lil’brary campaign was promoted. The campaign, supported by Mitsubishi Motors, brings the joy of reading to children who might not have access to reading material.
The SAGMJ members in the Western Cape donated a car boot full of books.
“This donation by like-minded people, sharing the passion of Mitsubishi to assist with the donation of books to JOE lil’brary, did a lot to help the project,”
says Nic Campbell, General Manager of Mitsubishi Motors South Africa.
Sabine Lehmacher, spokesperson for the project, thanked Mitsubishi Motors SA and the SAGMJ Western Cape for their contribution:
“We will distribute the books to operators of JOE lil’braries in Pretoria where it can share the joy of reading with children,”
said Lehmacher, who also thanked Mitsubishi Motors and the SAGMJ for their contribution:
“Thank you for the work that you do in collecting these books for us throughout the year. There is a great need in our centres, and it was a pleasure to partner with you in helping to give us these special gifts of books and mini library shelves. We are looking forward to continue partnering in the future.”
The JOE lil’brary is literally that – a little library in a box – and MMSA and the SAGMJ Western Cape members donated books they and their children have read but were just gathering dust.
“Thanks to generous partners and donors like Mitsubishi Motors South Africa, who love the idea, this movement is fuelled by generous citizens like the members of the SAGMJ in the Western Cape who believe in the importance of getting South Africans back into reading in a digital age,”
says Campbell.
“Mitsubishi Motors South Africa focuses on family wellbeing as far as our products and safety are concerned, and to us this was a great way to support children,”
concludes Campbell.
South Africans are asked to join the ongoing drive throughout 2021 to donate more books.
“You can simply take it to a JOE lil’brary near you, drop it off at any of our dealers, or send an email to lockdown@mitsubishi-sa.co.za so that we can make arrangements,”
concludes Campbell.
The SAGMJ donation was received by Mitsubishi Motors Paardeneiland.
