Solidarity on the track
The Solidarity e-Race was created to support the relief efforts provided by the Solidarity Fund to small and medium-sized business enterprises.
The race, brought to you by Afrihost, Data Sciences Corporation, Pure Storage and NEC, which combines the passion for speed with the passion for South Africa has kicked off with a bang and has once again cemented the solidarity and patriotism amongst South Africans.
"While we are fully aware that South Africans are passionate about their cars and motorsport and even more so about their country, it is amazing to see how many people came together to support this race and its cause. Even more exciting is the fact that now we will be heading into the semi-finals and final race where we will get to see these talented drivers, both sim racers & real racers, battle it out for the top of the podium,"
Greg Moloney, Commentator, Voice of Choice.
The qualifying sessions, held on the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit, which started on Thursday 9 April 2020 and has ended at 08h00 on Tuesday 14 April has seen 137 registered racers completing over 23 000 laps, 104 232km roughly two and a half times round the world! The Solidarity e-Race team has identified the fastest 100 pilots which will be split in four different races for the semi-finals, based on their qualifying times. The drivers will be allocated races via lucky draw. The semi-final grids will be announced live on all the relevant social media pages at 14h00 on 14 April after which the semi-final races will commence from 19h00 on the same day. Each race will last for 10 laps and the six fastest drivers from each race will qualify for the grand final taking place at 19h00 on the 15th of April 2020.
Spectators can catch the action as it will be live-streamed on YouTube and Facebook with the commentary from Greg Moloney and guests. Further updates will be posted on Twitter and Instagram. For more information, please visit www.solidarityerace.co.za
