Falke Full Moon Hike Season Kicks off on 13 September at Delvera

As the sun begins to set later and later and the mercury starts to rise, it gives us great pleasure to announce the return of the 15th Season of the popular Full Moon Hike Season 2019/2020.

Presented by sock specialists Falke and outdoor adventure experts Dirtopia. The time has come for outdoor enthusiasts and active families to dust off their hiking boots for the upcoming season of hikes on Delvera Farm near Stellenbosch.

Hiking season runs from 13 September through to 7 May, with 12 scheduled Falke Full Moon Hikes on the calendar- including New Year’s eve and Valentine's Day sunset hikes.

The 9.75km Dirtopia Vineyard Trail is set in The Simonsberg Conservancy. The circular trail meanders through vineyards, Renosterveld Conservancy and the majestic Yellow Wood Forest to summit Klapmutskop at 523m. With panoramic views of the Winelands and Cape Town – and, of course, spectacular sunsets and moon rises.

Starting from the Dirtopia Trail Centre, it will take approximately 90min to reach the top, which is why hikers are advised to arrive at the stipulated times. Times change every month, according to when the sun sets and the moon rises. Farm vehicles are available to transport children and elderly hikers to the start of the shorter 4,5km route from the famous Pepper Tree.

For the event on Friday, 13 September, sunset will take place at 18h34 with the moonrise at 17h59. Saturday, 14 September, the sunset will start at 18h35 with the moonrise at 18h53. It is recommended to arrive at 16h00 for both of these events and not to start later than 17h30.

The cost for the Falke Full Moon Hikes at Delvera is R100 for adults and R50 for children under the age of 10 and includes shuttles, permits and a map. Klapmutskop is part of Simonsberg Conservancy and part of the permit goes towards this non-profit organisation. For this reason, no dogs are allowed. Torches (which also for sale at Trail Centre) and something warm to wear are recommended for the walk down.

Bookings should be made in advance at the Dirtopia Trail Centre to avoid disappointment as space is limited. You are welcome to pack your own food or enjoy a light meal at the Dirtopia Café on your return to the trail centre.
