After the recent COVID-19 outbreak, President Cyril Ramaphosa implemented a national lockdown to mitigate the spreading of the virus.

The preventative measure, while beneficial to the health and safety of all individuals residing in South Africa, harms the economy and more specifically small to medium business enterprises. To assist these businesses in keeping their doors open, the Solidarity Fund was created and has since then seen the support from various businesses and individuals in the private sector. In addition to the slowing economy, many motoring shows and racing events, locally and internationally, have been cancelled prompting most people to take it slow, however, we want to speed things up with the Solidarity e-Race online event, sponsored by Afrihost, Data Sciences, Pure Storage and NEC in order to raise awareness and funds for the South African Solidarity Fund.

As a majority of people are confined to their homes, online racing simulators and e-sports, in general, has seen a drastic increase in players and once again opened up the racetracks around the world. Even the world's best racing drivers from disciplines such as Formula 1, World Endurance Championship and the Intercontinental GT championship have been found populating the starting grids of online simulators. One of the more popular amongst e-racers is Assetto Corsa Competizione, the official game of the Blancpain GT Series.

Using this platform, the Solidarity e-Race series will be taking place on the historic Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit where competitors will have the chance to go up against some the best in local and international racing talents including; Intercontinental GT ace Kelvin vd Linde, Sauber F1 Development driver Stuart White, his VW Polo Cup teammate and multiple SA Karting champion Kwanda Mokoena and former VW Polo Cup champion Chris Shorter. Whether, novice, intermediate and professional, all drivers/gamers are urged to join in on the fun and support the Solidarity Fund which will benefit from the entry fees collected as 50 per cent will be donated to the cause and 100 percent of direct donations.

There will be multiple qualifying races taking place from which the top 100 fastest will progress to the second round. The second round will consist of 4 races; each competed by 25 pilots. The winners from each of these races will head into the highly competitive final race.

Not only is this a great opportunity for e-racers to be recognized as one of the top 100 in South Africa but also to win a share of R20 000 cash prizes and further R30 000 in product including year's free data packages from Afrihost.
