If you’re looking for a side-splitting comedy head for Night School, where Kevin Hart joins a bunch of misfits as they try to get their GED, by any means necessary. Book ahead to watch it and you stand a chance to win 1 of 5 Typo Hampers – just e-mail your ticket reference number to Nightschool@sterkinekor.com.
Kevin Hart plays Teddy Walker, whose life is turned upside down after he accidentally blows up his work. His best friend might have a job for him in finance, but only if he graduates high school – so Teddy is forced to return to Piedmont High, where the principal rules with an iron fist.
Teddy enrols in night school, where he needs to cram four years of school into a single semester. But he’s not alone – also trying to earn their GEDs are a mixed bag of dropouts, including Theresa (Mary Lynn Rajskub of 24), a hardworking mom who got pregnant in high school and now wants to graduate so that she won’t have to stay in her -in-laws’ laundry room; hipster Mila (Anne Winters of 13 Reasons Why), whose wealthy family is forcing her to attend night school and get her GED; and Luis, who wants to become a singer songwriter – among others. One of Teddy’s fellow students, Bobby, even has to skype into class from the Georgia Correctional Facility.
Their teacher, Carrie (Tiffany Haddish of Girls Trip) is there to earn some extra income for reasons of her own. She doesn’t mince her words: she thinks Teddy is “clinically dumb” – and you can’t cure that. She resorts to some unorthodox, even violent methods when she realises that “teaching the conventional way isn’t going to get it done”. But with students like these, even her hardcore methods may not be enough. It’s going to be a long semester – but certainly not a boring one.
Night School is the latest comic offering from Kevin Hart and producer Will Packer, and makes good use of the fast-paced, explosive comedy style of their previous hits Ride Along, Girls Trip, the Wedding Ringer and Think Like a Man. This is the perfect film for anyone who enjoys a wild comedy ride!
