AMERICAN SHARIA THE MOVIE: MEET OMAR REGAN LIVE AT EXCLUSIVE FILM SCREENINGS
In a climate primed to fear and hate Muslims, a bold stance has being taken against Islamophobia via the entertainment industry.
Like anti-Semitism, racism, and homophobia, Islamophobia describes mentalities and actions that demean an entire class of people.
“There are over 1 billion Muslims around the world and nobody catering for us and our stories. So I left Hollywood and I’m going Halalywood” says Omar Regan, American actor and comedian who produced and directed American Sharia in 2014.
The plot of the movie covers the real life issues in which Muslims are dealing with domestically and internationally.
“It is not a tit for ‘tat for tat’ view. It is a Muslim telling the story for a change from a Muslim point of view", said Omar Regan, adding that “American Sharia is a Hollywood motion picture that sets out to use comedy to reverse the prejudices held against Islam and help promote the religion in a more positive way.”
Islamic Relief SA is grateful to be a beneficiary of the funds raised on this tour, and will allocate the proceeds towards its Orphan and Vulnerable Children (OVC) programmes in South Africa.
The public will have an opportunity to meet Omar Regan live at the screenings in South Africa.
