BIC unveils inspiring mural at Eastleigh Primary
One-of-a-kind piece encourages creativity
Eastleigh Primary School celebrated Spring by revealing a unique mural at the school. In collaboration with BIC South Africa, the work of art was created by acclaimed artist and professional illustrator, Yay Abe.
BIC’s collaboration with Yay Abe saw the artist using BIC’s 4-Colour pen to promote doodling and creativity. Leveraging social media, he asked South Africans to submit positive words of encouragement to inspire his doodles and created works of art based on the submissions he liked most. These were then combined into the unique mural, which also features words of encouragement.
Amy Whittam, BIC’s Marketing Manager for Human Expression (stationery) in South Africa, encouraged learners to focus on staying in school. She reiterated BIC’s commitment towards education and handed over stationery packs for learners and teachers at Eastleigh Primary. “One of the major causes of school dropouts is the lack of resources. As a stationery manufacturer and producer, and a brand committed to education, we are dedicated to play our part in equipping students with the necessary tools and resources they need in the classroom and beyond.”

Primary to hand over stationery donations and unveil the school's unique new mural
BIC asked its Facebook fans to nominate a deserving school to receive the mural piece and Eastleigh Primary was one of four schools drawn to receive the mural.
Yay Abe answered several enthusiastic questions from learners and learned some new slang and dance moves during the process. “I hope that this mural is a reminder to students to embrace their individuality and value the opportunity they have to learn.” he said.

BIC conducts roadshows at schools to donate stationery in a nationwide education initiative, Buy a Pen, Donate a Pen. For every pen sold in the country, BIC donates a writing tool for students in need and has donated over 15 million writing tools to students across South Africa since 2012.
In 2024, BIC has reached over 1 million students and over 40,000 teachers. Over 600,000 writing tools have been donated across 175 high schools and 186 primary schools. This stems from BIC’s global commitment to improving learning conditions for 250 million students by 2025.
Play a role in supporting learners in South Africa and unleashing their creativity. Visit BIC’s CSR page (Corporate Social Responsibility) for more information about how to get involved.
