Don’t forget it’s Transport Month!
Transport Month will be marked during October for the 19th time since its start in 2005. It brings attention to one of the most important industries within the South African economy. There are various initiatives that MasterDrive is involved, in particular, their annual Transport Month Event. October is an important month for the organisation to bring attention to road safety.
This year, MasterDrive will be co-hosting the Africa Road Safety Summit with Vodacom. The CEO of MasterDrive, Eugene Herbert, expands: “While Transport Month is specific to South Africa, the hybrid format of the event will enable drivers across Africa to attend the Summit.
“A powerful line-up of speakers will cover many issues affecting or assisting road safety. Each will share information about advancing road safety across the continent through innovation, sustainability, collaboration and risk management,” says Herbert.
Teaser of topics:
- ‘Insurance Innovations for Road Safety’ by Santam
- ‘Lubricants and Vehicle Efficiency’ by Castrol
- ‘Urban and Rural Road Safety’ by GRSP
- ‘New Electric Vehicles (NEVs) and Climate Change Impacts’ by Accenture
- ‘Vehicle Lifespan and Maintenance’ by Ford Motor Company
- ‘Comparative Road Safety Initiatives: Australia and Africa’
- ‘Tyre Safety – where rubber meets the road’ by Dunlop
Attendees can also look forward to a panel discussion at the hybrid event. “It will be a collaborative approach to road safety across different sectors. The panel will feature a multitude of perspectives from not only the automotive industry but also others like insurance and technology and how each works together to improve road safety in Africa.
“The Africa Road Safety Summit is the next step as MasterDrive grows its endeavours to promote road safety. This event brings a multitude of perspectives not just to South Africa but to the continent as a whole. We have high expectations for the coming Transport Month event and the potential it will have to effect this change.”
This October will undoubtedly be another successful Transport Month. “Along with the event held by MasterDrive, awareness events will be hosted throughout the month by several other organisations. We encourage all to partake in as many initiatives as possible as your own contribution to improved road safety.
“Above all, however, take a moment to assess your driving habits and correct any bad habits you may have fallen into. As important as awareness campaigns are during Transport Month, real change starts by taking everything you learn and using it to improve your own driving skills,” says Herbert.
