Singer-songwriter, Esté Gross, is a woman of many talents and is happiest when she is busy.
Not only is she a well-known radio presenter and newsreader, but she is also a successful program compiler and columnist.
Now, she can also add author to her impressive list of accomplishments, because a collection of her best columns has just been published and is now available in stores.
In addition to this achievement, she has also released a brand-new song that can already be heard on the radio.
According to this versatile artist, her fourth single, WEERKLINK, is inspired by the scripture in Matthew 22:37 where Jesus says:
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind”.
“When I wrote the song, I experienced so much peace and became very aware of the Lord’s grace in my life, and the desire to spend time in His presence,”
she shares about this spiritual pop song produced by Gideon Botes.
WEERKLINK is also a prayer for God to remain close, and she really hopes that it will strengthen and encourage everyone who listens to it.
“The message I would like to convey is that we must seek the Lord’s presence and echo and reflect Him in our lives. He is the one who gives peace, and we can find rest and just be in His presence.”
A video of this beautiful song is now available online and on TV. It was filmed at Campagne Living by the team from Common Ground Collective, Dylan and Marike du Plessis.
“Just like the song, the video is about the desire to experience the presence of the Lord in your life. The video also portrays that we need to maintain our childlike spontaneity and search for beauty in the everyday to continue to believe like a child,”
she explains about the concept used for this project.
“The natural beauty and exceptional space of the venue, especially the open windows, provide a lot of light and openness in the video. By using a very special video technique (double exposure), the scene of a little girl, portrayed by the fantastic actress Xerésh Swart, plays over the profile of my face. It portrays the connection between the search for pure faith as an adult and the remembrance of childlike faith.”
Watch the video:
The single follows in the footsteps of previous hits such as Deur die Storm (in association with Hemelbesem, the ATKV, and UP Youth Choir), and Hemelruim (featuring Len Muller as a guest artist) which was honoured with an Aitsa award for best spiritual song of the year in 2022.
Gross is also excited to share WEERKAATS with fans. It is a compilation of columns she wrote for Beeld and Netwerk24 between 2017 and 2023 and is now available in good book stores nationwide.
Regarding the title of the publication, she reveals:
“Everything we experience daily reflects something of the reality in which we find ourselves. What reflects from within us outwardly, what is reflected inwardly on us from the outside? The book is a combination of columns of my experiences and perceptions of being human.”
Because it took her a long time to work up the courage to submit her work for publication, this project means a lot to her, and she dedicates it to everyone who believed in her and supported her in living out her passion for writing.
“The columns were inspired by my daily experiences of reality as a newsreader, journalist, singer, and songwriter, and simply as a human being with my own daily challenges, experiences, and issues. I believe that my experiences and issues are universal and hope that readers will join me on this journey,”
she explains.
WEERKAATS is published by Naledi and is now available in selected bookstores or online.
Esté has always been passionate about her career and music.
When she is not on stage, she works at Pretoria FM as radio presenter and program compiler of several music programs, like Wat’s Nuut? Dis Klassiek!, that are broadcast on a Sunday. She is also the anchor and news reader of the actuality program, Klankkoerant-Laatmiddag.
Over the years she has had numerous career highlights, including working on several acclaimed music series and stage productions as well as receiving several ATKV Mediaveertjie nominations for journalism.
In 2022 she was also nominated for two awards as best newsreader at the national Radio Awards and a #GoeieGons-award presented by the Solidariteit Gilde vir Kommunikasie en Bemarking (Guild for Communication and Marketing).
She feels privileged to be able to do what she loves every day and still has many hopes and dreams for the future. But for now, she is focusing on the exciting projects she is currently working on and making time for the people who are close to her heart.
“For me, music and writing are about the privilege of touching people, even if it’s only in a small way, while I’m doing what makes me happiest,”
she concludes.
WEERKLINK is now available on all digital streaming platforms.
