Here is a list of the undeniable reasons to get to the 25th edition of Decorex Joburg – presented by Plascon - taking place at Gallagher Convention Centre from 8 to 12 August.
Hall 1
100% Design South Africa
Adding to the milestone events will be South Africa’s leading product design showcase, 100% Design South Africa, which returns to Decorex Joburg for a fifth time. Audiences will be inspired by an exquisite display of furniture design, textiles, lighting, wallpaper and product design from more than 130 local and international exhibitors.
Hall 2
Win a Kitchen Competition by Curves & Bevels Kitchen Designers
Showing why they’re the Master of Curve, when it comes to modern kitchen cabinetry, is Curves & Bevels Kitchen Designers. In addition to a stylish kitchen installation, they’re bringing visitors the ‘Win a Kitchen Competition by Curves & Bevels Kitchen Designers’ hosted at their stand. All visitors who enter stand a chance to win a fabulous custom-made kitchen designed by Curves & Bevels Kitchen Designers, valued at R300 000. The counter tops will be crafted by Silestone, door finishes by Seno SA, fittings and hardware by Grass ZA and appliances by Bosch.
Franke Kitchen Trend Project
More kitchen appliances, products and finishes will feature at the incredibly popular Franke Kitchen Trend Project. Four of the country’s best kitchen designers - The Kitchen and Granite Studio, CHC Kitchens, and Eurofit Kitchens & Cupboards - will integrate the latest Franke SA range into crafted kitchen spaces using an ‘An Expression of Colour’. Focusing on the latest global trends, the best design will be awarded R15 000 in Franke SA kitchen products.
Gourmet Cooking Theatre
A popular interactive feature, The Gourmet Cooking Theatre gives leading Joburg chefs a chance to display their unique cooking talents with an engaged audience. Audiences will watch the demonstrations taking place in a in a gorgeous kitchen installation curated by Riverwoods, with surfaces by Stonehenge and appliances by Hisense. There will be hour-long demonstrations by a host of culinary masters taking place throughout the show.
The Coffee Cup by Illy Caffé
Skilled baristas will keep Decorex Joburg audiences ready and alert by serving incredible coffees and snacks at the beautifully curated black, white and red Coffee Cup by Illy Caffé.
Hall 3
Plascon Concept Stand and Mono Café
The colour experts will be on hand in the stylishly-designed Plascon stand to discuss the latest colour trends for interior and exterior use, with paints samples available at Plascon’s Mono Café. Visitors can pick a room from one of the beautiful Plascon room settings on an iPad at the Plascon stand to discover individual design personality. Plascon is also hosting a fun lucky draw.
The Lighting District Feature – brought to you by K. Light
Leading South African lighting company, K. Light, will be illuminating the importance of light fittings and styles at this trendy new feature. The audience’s mood will be elevated as they take a journey through the spectrum of lighting solutions such as chandeliers, pendants, fluorescent lighting and LED…among others.
Hall 4
Design House brought to you by Builders
The latest Virtual Reality technology will transport visitors on an immersive build experience in this new feature. Here, experts from Builders will discuss the various build elements through the simulation that showcases the latest products, styles and trends.
EGO Garden of the Future, brought to you by Smith Power Equipment
The sense of the outdoors moves into the EGO Garden of the Future, brought to you by Smith Power Equipment. Visitors will get to witness the high-technology capabilities of EGO Power gardening and landscape equipment – launched for the first time in South Africa. These environmentally and user-friendly products require no petrol and expose users to a world of silent gardening.
Hall 5
Decorex Designer Spotlight
Leading Joburg designer, Dorothy Van’t Riet, and her team from Dorothy Van’t Riet Design and Décor Consultants, will express their style of timeless beauty, creativity and individualism at this year’s Decorex Designer Spotlight. They have chosen to curate an aspirational living space exuding retro glamour and style.
Stephen Falcke
Patron of Decorex Joburg and world-renowned interior designer, Stephen Falcke, will be tapping into the event’s 25-year history with his dynamic milestone installation. Get a glimpse of 25 years of trends reflecting Falcke’s personal tastes and preferences.
@home Trend Home presented by Decorex
The @home Trend Home presented by Decorex - curated by Creative Director of Decorex, Anita Bloom and her inspired team – gives a real-world taste of the latest #rhythmoflife trends and how they can be cleverly incorporated into the modern home. This year the team will be collaborating with leading suppliers, @home and @home living space; Bang & Olufsen; Time Brandits; Sugar Plum Interiors Bathroom; Stone Library featuring Franke and Caesarstone in the kitchen; Plascon, Wire World; Fundi Living & Lighting; with wooden laminate flooring by Selborne Flooring Distributors.
Decorex Scent
As a complete sensory submersion, visitors will get to see, feel, hear and even smell this year’s exhibition with the inclusion of the unique Decorex Scent created by Brand Scents.
Thru The Chair Project
Students from Re-Create are set to astound in this charitable initiative – Thru The Chair – re-crafting and reinventing everyday chairs into works of art. These re-purposed items will be sold to raise funds for sustainable projects which promote education in Africa. Visitors will have the chance to view some of these truly unique designs at Decorex Joburg.
Rooms to Grow
Children take centre stage at this vibrant new feature which showcases four bedroom settings – the Nursery, Toddler Room, Tween Room and Teen Room – designed by The Room Furniture, Clever Little Monkey and Petit Love. Audiences will be able to find some truly innovative furniture concepts, styles and colour combinations in this #rhythmoflife installation.
South African Craft Collective
Another exciting Decorex Joburg feature is the South African Craft Collective (SACC) which comprises 60 local craft entrepreneurs featuring handmade home, gift and fashion accessories that reflect the warm South African cultural heritage across the nine provinces. The design-focused goods crafted by these skilled individuals include unique products created from recycled material, ceramics, as well as traditional and contemporary craft products, all of which are Fair Trade and environmentally-friendly.
Ballroom
Forming a pivotal aspect of every decorated space, art will be in the spotlight within the Ballroom at this year’s Decorex Joburg. This colourful gallery will feature a choice selection of artwork by some of the country’s leading artists.
Artist Spotlight
In the gallery limelight will be renowned South African artist, Derric van Rensburg, whose impressionist style depicted in the iconic imagery of local landscapes will invigorate the exhibition hall.
Paint Nite
Decorex Joburg will also empower visitors to become artists themselves with the newly introduced Paint Nite on Thursday, 9 and Saturday, 11 August from 12pm to 3pm. A professional artist will lead a fun, informal class on painting the Jozi Skyline, with blossoming artists able to enjoy a drink with friends while creating their masterpieces. Experience isn’t necessary, and supplies are provided, but all blossoming artists must be 18 years or older.
Make the most of your Decorex Joburg experience
With six bars and restaurants and 16 ongoing event competitions, Decorex Joburg keeps on giving. Visitors will also get insight into the personalities behind the exhibition in the #withlovefromDecorex feature. This elegant display will showcase 18 individual furniture and décor pieces selected by each team member from the stylish @home homeware store and @home living space furniture and décor, with the installation reflecting the dynamic characters that bring the show to life.
Necta
And, to ensure visitors don’t miss out on a single aspect of the show, Decorex Joburg has introduced Necta, a mobile app that consolidates all event information including exhibitor details, specials and competitions.
