Innovative Staffing Solutions, a subsidiary of Innovative Solutions Group™, has moved into a higher gear by introducing yet another truck to its fleet, thereby ensuring a platform for increased truck driver training.

The company recently invested in a Renault Kerax truck and has now also acquired a Volvo truck, enabling it to train one truck driver every one-and-a-half hours. Since the beginning of the year, more than 600 truck drivers have been trained.

“Having the dedicated on-site trucks is a huge advantage for our clients as it significantly reduces their truck downtime. At the same time, we ensure all drivers are properly trained with regards to safety regulations and measures to ensure their safety and those of others on the roads,” says Arnoux Maré, Managing Director of Innovative Staffing Solutions.

Maré is quick to point out that no single approach can contribute to driver competency alone, however, he is confident that regular driver evaluation and corrective training can go a long way to minimise truck accidents. He says they also employ fleet technology monitoring systems and close management of drivers’ schedules to prevent fatigue and negligence, both factors contributing to accidents among commercial vehicles.

“We are constantly finding innovative and practical ways to improve driver competences. This is a very important factor as the safety of our employees and our clients’ equipment remains a top priority,” he adds.

Innovative Staffing Solutions’ control rooms are also manned 24/7, 365 days a year. The company’s dedicated controllers, who each oversee approximately 40 trucks and their drivers, constantly provide feedback on driver behaviour and potential issues that could affect operations.

Maré is also very keen to talk about the Innovative Staffing Solutions’ Driver Training Programme, which enables inexperienced Code 14 drivers to shadow more knowledgeable drivers on the team, allowing them to hone their abilities through on-the-job training and mentorship.

“The programme has been very successful, and we train about 1,000 drivers a year. In successfully growing and upskilling them, the results have been a more dedicated, loyal and productive workforce. Off course, with an added truck to our fleet we can train even more drivers,” says Maré.

Maré says they are constantly trying to go the extra mile to take care of their more than 5,500 truck drivers, who are thus in turn able to deliver industry-leading services to the company’s clients.

The company recently joined hands with one of the largest medical aid schemes in South Africa to offer its truck drivers the most affordable and comprehensive medical aid package in the country.

“Usually, a medical aid plan of this nature would cost R1,900 a month and would thus not be affordable for an individual who only earns about R9,300 a month. However, following months of negotiations with the medical aid scheme, our drivers are only paying R300 a month for this high-end medical aid which came into effect on 1 March 2018,” Maré explains.

Maré says these measures are also very reassuring to clients.

“Knowing that their workforce is well taken care of, is trained and productive, enables our clients to focus on their core business capabilities and grow their businesses,” Maré concludes.
