moyo uShaka Temporary Close
Distinctive Durban destination; moyo uShaka will be temporarily closing their pier bar for an estimated duration of 16 weeks, as of Sunday 20 August 2017.
The closure is as a result of uShaka Marine World servicing their wells that lie beneath the pier structure that lead into the aquarium. The aquarium’s water extraction system is located below the pier and consists of 60 6m deep wells from which their new sea water is extracted. These wells were built and concealed underneath the pier that is home to the famous moyo Pier bar.
The safety and health of the marine life in uShaka marine world is something moyo takes extremely seriously, and cares very deeply about.
“The decision therefore, to close the pier bar in order for the maintenance and preservation of the wells was a very simple one for us as we are fully committed to the marine life and preservation in uShaka marine world. It will however, be business as usual at the moyo main restaurant and beach bar”, says Warren Branigan, moyo uShaka General Manager.
The pier structure was designed to be dismantled relatively easily as partially removing the structure is crucial in order for the re-bedding of the wells, which involves replacing the sand around the well with a larger gravel. This process has not taken place in over 10 years as it has not been necessary until now.
moyo apologizes for any inconvenience caused during this time and hope to open to the public again soon.
