New peachicks strutting their stuff at a Nature Preserve in Ezembeni - South Coast of KwaZulu Natal

 

Five feathered fowls, who joined the family at Crocworld Conservation Centre in September last year, have already become firm favourites at the Scottburgh-based park.

 

The offspring of the aptly-named peacock and peahen, Azure and Majesty, are happily roaming the paths of Crocworld, making friends and captivating visitors with their beauty.

Crocworld's Animal Curator, Busani Mthiyane, explained that eight eggs were laid; however, only five survived predators – all of which hatched in September. 

 

“They’re all doing really well at Crocworld, and are another wonderful addition to the centre’s incredible family of birds,”

 

he said, noting there were some 200 bird species found in the indigenous coastal forest – alongside the resident creatures! 

 

Visitors to the centre can also check out the nesting egrets above the crocodile enclosures, home to the largest and oldest known Nile crocodile in captivity – 124-year-old Henry!

Not to be overlooked is Henry’s best mate and fellow Nile legend, Colgate, whose well into his 90s!
