Fly over your fear of flying

Fear of flying (Aviophobia) is often linked to Anxiety, past experiences, or fear of losing control. For many, the fear of flying can feel overwhelmingly daunting and Anxiety inducing.
In fact airlines knew this from the beginning, as the first air hostess ever wasn't hired to fetch peoples drinks but as a trained nurse to help keep travelers calm!

These emotional responses are often limiting for travel, work, and connecting with loved ones.

Symptoms of Aviophobia can range from mild Anxiety to extreme Panic Attacks. Those that suffer from Aviophobia often have lasting impact on their lives, as they may not be able to travel for work they may miss out on a promotion or career opportunities, or not be able to attend that important family gathering, impacting their Mental Health further.

Recognising the toll of this common phobia, SADAG is shining a spotlight on Aviophobia and offering resources to help individuals reclaim their confidence.

SADAG is hosting an online expert Q&A this Friday, 24 January, from 1pm-1:30pm on Facebook with Clinical Psychologist and SADAG Board Member, Shai Friedland. This Q&A will be tackling the 'Fear of Flying'.

‘While aviophobia can feel isolating, it’s important to know you’re not alone, there are effective tools and treatments to manage and overcome this fear, from mindfulness techniques to therapy.’

says Shai.

During the Facebook Live, Shai will be explaining symptoms, the impact, how to get help and practical coping tips. He will also be discussing details about a new programme that he is running alongside pilots to assist people impacted by the fear of flying.

If you have felt anxious about flying, or had a Panic Attack while on an Aeroplane, or perhaps you have a loved one who has an intense fear of flying - SADAG urges you to join the LIVE conversation this week to learn and understand more.

A smart man once said.

‘Statistically, flying is the safest form of travel, logically, it’s the quickest way to get somewhere, yet anxiously it causes the most Stress.’
