Overwhelming interest in KIA Champ into the Arena sees first round tournament at capacity
Launched at the beginning of this week, there has been overwhelming interest in the 2018 edition of the KIA Champ into the Arena amateur 5-a-side soccer tournament – to such an extent that the first round of the tournament, scheduled to take place at Discovery Soccer Park in Johannesburg on 18 March 2018, has reached its full capacity of 96 teams.

“The tournament format allows for a maximum of 64 teams to participate within each regional tournament, with the Gauteng regional tournament usually reaching capacity fairly quickly,” says Christo Valentyn, Brand Marketing and Communication Manager, KIA Motors South Africa. “Due to the overwhelming demand, we’ve extended the tournament hours in order to accommodate 96 teams this year, and we are delighted that it again filled up within days.”
The 96 teams participating in Johannesburg will join the various teams participating in the Cape Town- and Durban-based tournaments in competing for the coveted title of National Champions and the opportunity to represent South Africa in the KIA Champ into the Arena World Finals from 29 June to 2 July 2018 in Moscow, Russia, during this year’s FIFA World Cup.
Adding even greater incentive to perform well on game day will be the presence of National u20 and Bafana Bafana assistant coach, Thabo Senong. Joining him will be the hugely respected Moeneeb Josephs of Bidvest Wits FC, who has partnered with this event in previous years and again looks forward to watching the talent on display.
