09th August – 13th August, Joburg Theatre & 16th – 20th August, Soweto Theatre

This August, Mabu Art Foundation is honouring women’s month with their production called Milked Voice, written and directed by Slindile Mthembu. The production will be staged at The Joburg Theatre from Wednesday, 9 August 2017 until Sunday, 13 August 2017. The production will then start a run at The Soweto Theatre from Wednesday, 16 August 2017 until Sunday, 20 August 2017.

Milked Voice is an enchanting music sensation depicting an Eloquent Woman (Lebo Borole) who desperately needs to escape the challenges she faces as a young artist. Along her journey we meet a Saxophone Lady (Juliana Madiba), The Producer (Vusi Msiza), The Bass Player and his shadow (Kamogelo Nche and Sandile Mahlangu, respectively). All yearning to relive their dreams too. When all their worlds cross; do the missing puzzles of the characters dreams become fulfilled or not?

The production is an original South African piece of work with elements of jazz music. It is written and directed by Slindile Mthembu. Mthembu is a TUT BTech graduate who is currently studying towards her Masters in Theatre & Performance at Wits, making her the perfect candidate to write this ground-breaking original South African Theatre piece with elements of musical theatre. The music is composed by Michael Riff Themba and Thembinkosi Mavimbela as music director. Matsemela Mogotlane is the productions choreographer tasked with bringing exhilarating movement to the stage.

Milked Voice was staged at The National Arts Festival in Grahamstown last year where it managed to receive a Standard Bank Ovation Merit Award at the prestigious gala held at the festival.

In 2016, Milked Voice embarked on a school tour with the hopes of impacting scholars with the message that the piece carries. The tour proved to be very successful with many teachers and scholars agreeing that the production is unlike anything theyve seen before and that the message of finding your voice and/or passion truly resonated with them. Mabu Art Foundation intends on continuing this tradition by visiting more schools throughout the remainder of the year.

This award winning original South African piece is sure to entertain audience members from different walks of life. The show is great for families looking for an amazing night out at the theatre. Lovers of Jazz music will enjoy the four-piece band that will accompany the live singing of the cast members. Milked Voice will provide audience members with a night of pure bliss coupled with eternal memories with friends and family.

The production will be performed at The Joburg Theatre from Wednesday, 9 August 2017 until Sunday, 13 August 2017 and will then move to Soweto Theatre from Wednesday, 16 August 2017 until Sunday, 20 August 2017.
Tickets range from R70 – R100 and can be purchased at the respective theatre box offices, or from webtickets (www.webtickets.co.za)
