South African Cosplayer JinxKittie Wins Globally!
The Cosplay Crown Comes to South Africa: Our Own JinxKittie Wins the Global C2E2 Crown Championships of Cosplay
Comic Con Africa and KFC are thrilled to announce that our own JinxKittie Cosplay, Kelsey Atkins, the African Cosplay Champion from Comic Con Africa 2019, is bringing home the Global Championships of Cosplay Crown!
In a finale in Chicago that included Cosplayers representing the United States, Australia, China, Austria, Singapore, Indonesia, India, Korea, France, and the UK, JinxKittie stood out in her intricate Priestess Bathory Cosplay.
Over 600 hours of design, hand stitching, embroidering and 3D printing went into this incredible Cosplay, making JinxKittie the champion of the 2019 C2E2 Crown Championships of Cosplay – the largest and most prestigious Cosplay competition in the world.
Her Cosplay featured incredible detail including a gyroscopic 3D printed staff with a hand sculpted skull tarnished with real rust and glowing LED eyes, resin casted armour, a hand sewn dress of silk satin adorned with embroidery, silk ribbon roses, thousands of pearls and hand beading, and finished off with white contact lenses and dramatic red tears coming from her eyes. With an awe-inspiring sense of drama that saw her truly become the Priestess Bathory, JinxKittie wowed both the crowd and the judges at C2E2, the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo.
This result confirms that the standard of Cosplay is incredibly high in South Africa. This is only our second year of competing in the event and already it is not the first time a South African has achieved such stunning results. 2019 saw South Africa’s Kinpatsu Cosplay, Tayla Barter, come second. South African cosplayers are making waves worldwide and if you haven’t seen the breath-taking Cosplays coming out of our country, attend Comic Con Africa in 2020 and discover what you’re missing out on.
JinxKittie was sent to Chicago by Comic Con Africa. KFC, the ultimate wingman, was an integral part of enabling JinxKittie to attend this event and Comic Con Africa is grateful to their presenting sponsor for their support. JinxKittie lands at OR Tambo International at 07h15 on 5 March, and the Comic Con Africa team will be there in full force to welcome home our Global Champion.
Cosplay is a walking artform that has become hugely popular in recent years.
