Spotify Launches ‘Soundtrack Your Workout’: Personalised Playlists for Your Workout

Consumers have adopted creative ways to stay active - from new workout environments to creative at-home workouts designed by consumers themselves, to taking advantage of the outdoors. And with the variety of workouts and outdoor activities available, people are looking for ways to replace their previous mainstay workout playlist to stay motivated as they embark on new workout routines.

Spotify knows that the best workouts go hand in hand with a great playlist, so Spotify created Soundtrack Your Workout, an interactive destination that will generate new, fresh personalised playlists each time you take the tailored quiz.

By answering a few simple questions (i.e. type of exercises, workout length, who they’re working out with, intensity level and workout mood), users will receive a personalised playlist timed to almost any workout. If you're craving both music and podcasts, users can even select a mix media playlist.

To see ‘Soundtrack Your Workout’ in action, Spotify has partnered with Corey Calliet, Celebrity Trainer. “Music keeps me moving, and it keeps my tempo high where I need it to be,” said Calliet. “When making a playlist, I want to make sure that the exercise is going with the beat of the song. Never thought I would be able to get a customised playlist that fits my workout and my vibe in less time than it takes to grab my water and get out the door.” You can find Calliet’s personalised ‘Soundtrack Your Workout’ playlist HERE.

Spotify also looked at how global users are listening to workout music and podcasts and found that in the last month, 53% of those streaming are 18-29 year olds. And what is the top song users are working out to? Roses Remix” by SAINt JHN and Imanbek takes the top spot for both men and women globally. Or maybe you’re more into podcasts while breaking a sweat -- Mind Pump: Raw Fitness Truth was the top workout podcast globally.

South Africans are following global trends it seems, with “Roses Remix” by SAINt JHN and Imanbek taking the top as the most streamed exercise track by South Africans across genders. The next most popular workout song for South Africans was “Blinding Lights” by The Weekend and Becky Hill’s “Lose Control” featuring Goodboys and MEDUZA. 29.98 % of those streaming workout music locally are 18-24 year olds, followed closely by the 25-29 years old audience.

“Workout audio has always been a big focus for listeners on Spotify around the globe, and now more than ever, users are finding creative ways to stay active and healthy in this current climate,” said Spotify’s Trends Expert, Shanon Cook. “Listeners have created more than 1 million workout playlists in the last two months, and for those who could use some inspiration, we hope that by offering fresh, personalised workout playlists, we’ll help boost motivation and keep spirits high.”
