Toyota Sells More Than 12,000 Units in November

Mirroring the positive momentum in vehicle sales, Toyota records its best sales month in November, shifting 12,106 units for a total market share of 24,9% or 215 units more than the preceding month.

Leon Theron (Senior Vice President: Sales & Marketing), is buoyed by the upward trend in the market:

“Breaching the 12,000 sales mark for the first time this year is indeed a milestone and a clear signal that the economy is looking up. We achieved first place in all the major categories – Passenger, LCV and MCV."

“Building on last month’s solid performance wasn’t easy but the recent interest rate cut certainly bolstered consumer spending. That said, we can’t lose sight of the fact that YTD, the market is still 3,5% lower than the corresponding period last year. So, for vehicle sales to approach pre-pandemic levels, we need this wave of positivity to be consistent. Being number one is hard work but knowing we can count on the loyal support of our private customers, dealer network, TSAM staff, fleet owners and rental companies is the real key to our success.”

A deep dive into the numbers confirms that the strong showing in November was primarily attributable to growth in the passenger segment which was up by 20% over November 2023. With 7,966 passenger vehicle sales under its belt, this segment accounts for more than 65% of Toyota’s retail tally. The major benefactors in the passenger space were Corolla Cross (2,655), Starlet (1,238), Fortuner (872) and Urban Cruiser (870). Other valuable contributions came from the freshly minted Starlet Cross (710) and the Vitz (407).

Lexus maintained its market share for the month with the flagship LX being the standout model with 14 units retailed, for a total brand count of 60.

Toyota leads the LCV segment with a market share of 34,8%, the flagbearer for the brand being the bestselling Hilux which found 2,702 new customers in November. Hiace racked up 635 sales for the month, adding some worthwhile numbers to this segment.

The Hino 300 on 122 sales led the charge for Toyota in the MCV sector, followed by the Coaster (67) and Quantum (50) - accounting for a dominant market share of 34,8%. Still with trucking, the Hino 500 deserves special mention in the month of November – it’s 92-unit sales catapulted Toyota to the number two position in the Heavy segment.

On the aftermarket front, 2,044, 865 parts were supplied to domestic dealers while a further 312,798 parts were shipped to foreign markets.
