A Competition Where the Prize is Telling Adults What to Do
After the incredible success of KidsCon in Johannesburg, Comic Con is bringing a taste of the ultimate family day out to Cape Town.
KidsCon is a festival designed for kids by kids – and so we ask kids to call the shots. We’re now announcing the call for applicants for our Board of Little Experts. This is the collection of kids who will tell us what they want to do and see at KidsCon.
After our first Board assembled in 2019, we noticed some incredible results. The more we asked the kids for their opinions, the more their confidence grew. These special little humans realised that we – the big adults who usually make all the decisions – were listening to them and implementing their ideas. They became braver, they became more self-aware, and they became better able to articulate ideas that are important to them.
We interviewed Chris, one of our Little Experts, and we’ve posted his thoughts and experiences on YouTube:
Aside from sharing their opinions, being a Little Expert comes with other super cool benefits like taking part in the event on the stage and test running interesting and educational toys.
To enter, we ask kids to record a fun and interesting video review of their favourite holiday toy showing us their personality and thoughts and send it to little.experts@kidscon.co.za.
The competition is open to kids of all backgrounds from ages 4 – 11 and the toy can be any toy at all.
Handmade, repurposed, or store bought – whatever makes kids smile.
They need consent from their parent or guardian and we’ve uploaded the competition rules to http://bit.ly/LittleExperts_CT2020.
The applications close at the end of February.
We’re looking forward to meeting our next Board of Little Experts.
The inaugural Comic Con Cape Town has a KidsCon feature, and will be held from 1 – 3 May 2020 at the Cape Town Stadium in Greenpoint hosted by the City of Cape Town. Comic Con Cape Town is an entertainment and comic convention that features comic books, games, celebrities, Cosplay, animation, movies, artists, pop culture elements and so much more. It is co-located with the Cape Town International Animation Festival.
