Audiences still have two weekends to catch Mark Banks and they cant get enough of his up-to-the-minute take on SA’s shenanigans
Load shedding, water restrictions and the ever-rising cost of petrol might be bringing Joburgers down, but it is providing Mark Banks with plenty of comic fodder in his all new one-man show MARK BANKS – ALIVE! running at the Studio Theatre at Montecasino until 20 November 2022.
The ever-current Banks’ unique comedy style and theatrical staging gives audiences plenty to laugh about and a welcome respite from the daily grind. This is Banks at his best – new characters, new situations and a much needed look at Eskom and the newly appointed Minister of Ministers portfolio. .. With his up-to-the minute look at what's what and what's not in South Africa, no two shows are alike. Banks updates his material daily to ensure his take on the reality show, sometimes known as South Africa, is as fresh as it is funny.
Banks, who once owned the biggest private collection of retired South African lighthouse keepers, has a long-standing comedic career regularly welcomed to stages both locally and abroad. He has been performing the length and breadth of South Africa for most of his life with one-man hit shows such as We're Not On Top … We're Inside, Exodus From South Africa! Laughing All The Way To The Banks! It's Getting Harder! and Overstepping The Mark! He was a member of SA’s Comedy Team’s Bafunny Bafunny which performed to a capacity audience at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
Bank’s style and writing attributes have made him one of the busiest corporate entertainers and programme stagers in the country. After a hiatus of several years due to the pandemic and many other interests, he has returned to the stage with a renewed look at present day life in South Africa. He can currently be seen on SABC 2 in 7de Laan as the counter in the coffee shop OPPIEKOFFIE and is working on a podcast series to be released later this year on how comedy has become the biggest industry in South Africa after razor-wire, illegal AK-47 trading and Limpopo game farm furniture Tuscany style cash-stash lounge suites.
MARK BANKS – ALIVE! is filled with the usual Banks hilarity, surprises and audience interactions. There is no interval. Tickets cost R180 & R130 at Computicket and Theatre Box Office.
