Rehearsals for Star+Crossed begin today
Producers Offer Black Friday Special as encouragement for the support of new work
Rehearsals for the highly anticipated new South African musical, Star+Crossed get underway today, ahead of the season at Artscape Arena, Cape Town from 8th – 31st December 2022.
Librettist and co-producer Marcel Meyer states;
“After more than a year in development, we are thrilled that today the final leg of the journey toward a world premiere of this incredible story is finally underway. The entire team cannot wait to share this exciting new musical with local theatre lovers in just a few weeks.”
This December premiere season makes the show ideal holiday entertainment not only for the Cape Town locals, but for all traveling to the Mother City over the Festive/holiday season.

To celebrate the beginning of rehearsals, the producers Abrahamse & Meyer Productions and VR Theatrical are, for a very limited period, offering a Black Friday 50% discount on all ticket prices.
The producers realise how tough it is for audiences to support new work. This is an influencing factor in adding this special, in an effort to encourage the public to do just that.
From today until close of business on Wednesday 30 November, patrons can purchase half-price tickets to all performances of Star+Crossed.
The musical, with book and lyrics by Marcel Meyer and music by Wessel Odendaal, is loosely based on the remarkable life story of Elizabeth Klarer, who claimed she was abducted by an Alien from the foothills of the Drakensberg, transported to his Utopian planet in the Alpha Centauri System, where she bore him a son, before returning to earth, to spread his message of love and compassion.
Star+Crossed is an interstellar love story for the ages with a lush, romantic, original score that is bound to transport audiences to the stratosphere and beyond.
The musical stars celebrated performers Earl Gregory and Isabella Jane under the direction of multi–award-winning Fred Abrahamse who also designs the set. Faheem Bardien [Lighting Design], Kirsti Cumming [Projection design] and Marcel Meyer [costume design] make up the remainder of the creative team. Composer, Wessel Odendaal is responsible for the Musical Direction and Orchestration.
Isabella Jane stars as Bess, the role inspired by Klarer. Ms Jane recently won a Fleur Du Cap Award for her breakthrough performance in the international tour of Evita. Apart from being a sought-after actress and vocalist, Ms Jane, was also Runner-up during the 2015 season of SA’s Got Talent on local television.
Joining her in the role of Billy, Bess’s childhood friend, is celebrated musical theatre leading-man, Earl Gregory. Mr Gregory is no stranger to Cape Town audiences having made his debut in the title role of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s much-loved Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at Theatre on the Bay, to his recent award-winning turn as Lola in the Fugard Theatre’s production of Kinky Boots.
Star+Crossed runs from 8 - 31 December 2022 in the Artscape Arena, Cape Town.
Performances run Tuesdays – Saturdays at 8pm, with additional matinee performances on Saturdays and Sundays at 2pm.
All Black Friday Tickets are selling at R125 until 30 November 2022.
