Wellness Review: Kai Thai Spa, Melrose

Massages are always needed and are even better when it only costs R200 for 60 minutes.

While driving down Corlett Drive in Melrose on Monday 2 May 2016 we noticed this sign advertising a 60 minute full body massage for R200. Being seasoned spa goers we know that this type of treatment could cost anything from R650 upwards to well into the R1000 price range. In fact just last month my wife had a 30 minute massage back and neck massage only, from a well known spa brand for R250.

We were not going to miss this opportunity and quickly drove in to the Kai Thai premises. On arrival we were greeted by the hostess. We asked her if there was any availability that afternoon as we knew that booking was always recommended. She told us to take a seat and get comfortable as she told us that they were fully booked but she will try and see what she could do. She went to the back (to the massage cubicle area) and a few seconds later was back to say that she can fit us in. She then said if we don't mind waiting 15 minutes we could get a couples rooms with two beds, which we did.

Throughout our visits at the spa the hostess always kept us informed on how long it would be before our room was ready. While waiting, a gentleman arrived and asked the same question we did when we arrived only this time the hostesses' first response was that they were fully booked and she proceeded to ask when he would like to make a booking. We were very grateful that she had 'made a plan' for us.

When the 15 minutes were up, our room was ready for our massage. The massage was not the usual traditional Thai massage but rather a Thai massage with an African blend.

The ladies performing the massage were well mannered and kept asking if the pressure was ok and if they were hurting us. They handle the Thai massage very well and added their African blend to it.

We both really enjoyed it and will be sure to go back before the special ends in June 2016.
