Broadcasting live on ESPN on Thursday 28 July 2022, from 19:00 (CAT), the event’s bill sanctioned by Boxing South Africa (BSA) features some of Africa’s top boxers who will take to the ring to compete for glory.

The reigning South African flyweight champion Jackson Chauke is set to take on Tanzanian Mustafa Mkupasi for the vacant ABU flyweight title. Chauke, (37), who is tipped as the favourite, has held the WBC International flyweight title in the past and is an experienced boxer. Nicknamed ‘M3,’ he started boxing on the streets of Tembisa to counter bullies and after becoming an amateur boxer in the early 2000’s, he never looked back. Chauke transitioned to professional after his return from the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

Competing in the female bout, Malawian Anisha Basheel wants to show the boxing world that women are equal to men when she takes to the ring. The former ABU and Commonwealth champion is scheduled to face South African Kholosa Ndobayini in an international lightweight bout over eight rounds. Besides from being a full-time soldier of the Malawi Defence Force, the 24-year-old is also an ambassador for Plan International’s Girls Get Equal campaign. This initiative is a global movement demanding power, freedom and representation for girls and young women.

Basheel says she was underestimated her whole life, but as a champion in the boxing world, she is hoping to show young girls everywhere that anything is possible.
