Despite the team’s traditionally difficult performances at Killarney, they are determined to set this right this weekend. The weather forecast for the race is not looking favorable, with heavy rain and thunderstorms predicted throughout the weekend.
The team comprises three exceptional drivers, including Michael van Rooyen, popularly known as the “Rustenburg Rocket”; Saood Variawa, who finished second in last year’s championship and who also won the first race of the 2023 season at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit last month; and newcomer Nathi Msimanga, who proved his worth during his debut with the team at Kyalami. All three drivers will be driving GTC versions of the Toyota Corolla, with Van Rooyen and Variawa racing in hatchback versions and Msimanga driving the sedan.
Variawa, who is currently leading the championship after the opening round, expressed his excitement for the upcoming race.
"I am looking forward continuing my championship aspirations this weekend. The team has been working tirelessly, and we are all confident in our abilities to perform well at Killarney."
The weekend’s events will kick off with a qualifying session on Friday, followed by two races on Saturday, with the second race using a reverse grid based on the results of the first race. Killarney Race Circuit is a 3.267km track, and the circuit will be open from 7 am on Saturday. The ticket prices for the event are R50 for adults and R20 for children under the age of 12.
TOYOTA GAZOO Racing South Africa is ready to take on the challenges that come with the Killarney circuit, and they are excited to see how their drivers perform under the predicted poor weather conditions. The team is confident that their hard work and determination will pay off, and they are eager to bring home a victory for their fans.
