Series overview:

Come Dine With Me South Africa is back for its eighth season on BBC Lifestyle (DStv ch. 174) where the sweet, the spicy and the salty will come together in a battle to be crowned everyone’s favourite flavour.Fans can once again look forward to the popular show format, which follows four home cooks as they each host a three-course dinner party for the other contestants at their own homes.

Narrated by the hilarious Mr Dave Lamb, the knives (and forks) are out but who will take home the 10,000 rand cash prize?

Episode overview:

Night one kicks off at Arsenio’s, where he’s preparing to take his guests on a culinary tour of the flavours of Mozambique. He serves up a seafood starter of Tiger Prawns and Calamari, grilled Zambezian Chicken for the main and ends his taste experience with a Baked Cassava dessert. His food is ok but it’s his charm that get the praise.

On night two everyone is at Mozambican Ivete’s house. After a day of kitchen disasters her strategy is solid - hide her mistakes with lots of alcohol. For starters she serves a Mozambican classic, clams in a wine broth, which Jacky rates higher than her own mother’s. For the main, Ivete serves a Portuguese steak without the Portuguese part and finishes off with a store-bought mousse and a dance to entice her guests into higher scores.

Night three is hosted by Jacky, who plans to share her heritage and most treasured memories with her guests. After a tiring day behind the stove, an emotional Jacky emerges at the table and upsets her guests one course at a time beginning with an offal starter that nobody eats. She makes some headway with her well executed Salted Cod main dish and finally serves a dessert resembling animal spit putting everybody off their food for good.

The final night is at Devon’s where etiquette takes centre stage and finesse is a pre-requisite. He takes his guests back in time to role play a night on the Titanic, accompanied by classical music, sophisticated ambience, and a throwback menu. For starters he serves a steamed mussel pot, for the main flambéed filet mignons and for dessert, a desperate second attempt at a chocolate souffle.
