Innovative Staffing Solutions Says N4 Strike Averted
Innovative Staffing Solutions says that some 100 truck drivers, at Izusa Carriers, have returned to work.
This is after they embarked on strike action on the N4 near Komatipoort in Mpumalanga last night. The Motor Transport Workers Union (MTWU) and staff members have signed a strike resolution agreement, presented to them by senior representatives from Innovative Staffing Solutions, early on the 19th of June, 2018.
The agreement states that the Union and its members will cease their action with immediate effect and resume operations. This includes the removal of the blockage of the service road and the N4. The agreement, drafted and presented by Innovative Staffing Solutions, has been accepted by all parties.
“This, once again, is a prime example of the effective and efficient manner with which Innovative Staffing Solutions is able to resolve disruptive labour disputes,”
says Arnoux Maré, Managing Director of Innovative Staffing Solutions. “We have managed to, within a short period of time, diffuse the strike which has attracted national media attention.
Maré says the strike was in fact unlawful.
“As stated before, it is our opinion that the strike was, in fact, unprotected because the real issue in the dispute can be referred to arbitration to be resolved. In terms of the Labour Relations Act if a matter can be resolved through arbitration or the Labour Court strike action is deemed unlawful.”
Senior representatives from Innovative Staffing Solutions are still on site, and have been since last night, to ensure that communication channels remain open. It must be remembered that only one third of the workforce, on this particular site, were involved in the strike action, with the majority of employees wanting to continue with their duties.
“During the course of the strike we received several sms messages from both union and non-union members indicating that they would prefer to return to work, but were being prevented from doing so by union members who employed intimidation tactics. We want to reaffirm our commitment to looking after the welfare of our employees.”
Innovative Staffing Solutions has undertaken to investigate all the particular grievances raised by the workers in due course.
