Paternity testing in South Africa just got easier
New service makes determining the paternity of a child simpler and faster
There has long been a shortage of paternity testing options in South Africa with DNA testing companies being inundated with calls requesting the service. The good news is that a new option is available to solve paternity doubts. One of the country’s top DNA testing companies, Geneway now offers paternity testing using the DNA collected by buccal swabs in the mouth cheeks.
Paternity testing is an effective way to determine the biological father of a child. Every person inherits their DNA from their biological parents, half from their fathers and half from their mothers. A DNA paternity test compares the child’s DNA with the assumed father’s DNA to ascertain if there is a match.
The new service is available nationally and test kits may be delivered on request. Consent forms must be signed by the parties being tested. Alternately, an affidavit may be used to confirm the consent of the biological mother if she isn’t testing herself.
The samples don’t leave the country as they are analyzed at one of South Africa’s top medical laboratories, before the reports are generated for the parents requesting the test. More good news is that the use of DNA testing to determine the biological father of a child is 99,9% accurate. The turnaround time for results is approximately three to four weeks.
