Toyota South Africa Motors maintained its lead in local vehicle sales, selling 9,743 units out of the total 40,072 vehicles purchased by domestic customers resulting in a market share of 24.3%.

TSAM led the Passenger, Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV), and Medium Commercial Vehicle (MCV) segments with market shares of 23.4%, 30.1%, and 26.4% respectively.

In the LCV segment, the Hilux reaffirmed its position as South Africa’s much loved bakkie with 2,435 units sold. A remarkable 113 of the retail units came from the recently launched Hilux GR-S III. Another new entrant into the market is the Hilux Raider 48V which attributed to 99 sales under the Hilux stable. The Hiace contributed significantly with 381 sales, while the Land Cruiser 79 pickup also made a notable impact with 258 units sold.

Toyota's passenger vehicles delivered an outstanding sales performance, with four models ranking in the top ten. The Corolla Cross secured the second spot with 1,578 units, 800 of which were hybrids. With the rising popularity and high demand for hybrid models, Toyota further solidifies its position as the leading provider of New Energy Vehicles in South Africa. The introduction of 48V technology to Hilux (and Fortuner) is in line with Toyota’s multi-pathway approach, which encompasses diverse eco-friendly technologies through various powertrain options. The Starlet secured fourth place with 1,171 units.

Noteworthy is the strong sales performances of several of the automaker’s SUV models. The Fortuner, a renowned SUV and off-road icon, claimed sixth place with 972 units, the Land Cruiser Prado rounded out the top ten with 694 registrations - 679 of the units were courtesy of the recently launched, sought-after new generation. The Land Cruiser 300 achieved 133 units and just outside the top ten, the fuel-efficient Vitz found 542 new owners during Youth Month.

In the niche luxury segment, 69 Lexus vehicles from across the brand's lineup also found new homes.

On the commercial front the star performer for Toyota in the MCV segment was the Hino 300 series which garnered 93 sales while the Hino 500 series came in at 64 units in the HCV segment.

On the parts front, just over 1,3 million pieces were distributed locally, with 277, 275 pieces exported to foreign markets.
