Tech Review: Accelerit Wireless

In the complex we are living in, we were fortunate enough to have a Wireless Internet Connectivity Service. Well that is what we thought we had with Accelerit Wireless.

For the past (almost) a year now, we have been using the services of Accelerit Wireless, we have a 2GB a day with 2MBPS line which we pay R299. Not a bad price, actually quite a good deal, but when its sounds too good to be true it probably is. For the first few months it was fantastic, fast speeds, great connectivity and we hardly ever ran out of data.

As they say, all good things must come to an end. In the last maybe 4 or 5 months, things have definitely deteriorated. Every week there is a problem with connectivity. If it's not the line speed, then it's just no connectivity and sometimes the problem persists for days without being resolved. Then an e-mail is sent out to say that there was a problem at the guard house or they are switching over the infrastructure. None of these emails get sent out before time to say that there will be interruptions in the service. I always have to bring it to their attention that there is a problem and then I get replies to say did I do this, did I check that. You don't need an IT degree to connect to the Wireless. I may not have the qualifications but I think I am somewhat of an expert when comes to IT related problems.

Here I am, not promoting a local business which we want to do, but having to warn the public once again of the incompetence of a company and to rather think twice before using their services. For all the days that I have not had service, I have not received any refund nor additional data for the loss of or replacement as a result of the service not functioning.

This weekend was the last straw. As we need data constantly, it's frustrating not to have data for 3 days and then to get an email to say "thank you for your patience we will credit you with 3 days of additional data", which by the way I'm not sure we will even get.

The reason I say this, is today at 10a.m after doing what I normally do on the internet, I receive a message to say that my daily data limit has been reached. Never, ever, has this happened in almost a year and I do pretty much the same thing everyday but now I am told that I downloaded 1.2GB in an hour. It's amazing how quickly it downloaded so much data but when I needed it to download data it never does or takes forever.

I've just received a reply from Accelerit Wireless with a "break-down" of my usage.

As it is clear for the world to see now that there is only one day excluding today that I used 2GB (and that was over a day worth of online time), but I do the same thing everyday. How is it possible, that today the data is depleted when other days I am on the entire day and the data is not depleted?!

Yesterday in 7 and a half hours I downloaded 126.3MB and on the 11 December 2015 in almost 13 hours I downloaded 239.5MB, but mysteriously today I've done nothing different but it shows that I have downloaded 1.7GB. I fear questioning this phenomenon will just give me more 'out of this world' explanations, so I'm just going to leave it there.

Poor service and incompetence does not begin to explain this.
