Family Time with Scrabble
Get ready to unleash your incredible vocabulary on your opponents!
Scrabble is one of the all time classic family games, bringing players of all ages together. With today's freak storm we decided to stay indoors and take out our new Scrabble set.
It has been years since my wife and I have played Scrabble, maybe even decades (I'm giving away our ages) and it's even more fun than we remember, because now we have a new player.
Our 5 year old son is learning new words and even though the game is recommended for children 10 years and up, he wanted to play to show us his skills.
Scrabble is a crossword styled board game for 2 to four players.
The objective of the game is to score as many points by placing lettered tiles on the board.
Each lettered tile has specific points allocated to it:
- A, E, I, L, N, O, R, S, T, U - 1 Point
- D, G - 2 Points
- B, C, M, P - 3 Points
- F, H, V, W, Y - 4 Points
- K - 5 Points
- J, X - 8 Points
- Q, Z - 10 Points
The Scrabble board which is made up of 15 x 15 squares has 60 special squares across the board which indicate:
- Double Word
- Double Letter
- Triple Word
- Triple Letter
By placing tiles on these special squares, you can automatically increase the number of points for the word which you have played.
The game is very educational, and helps young and old players to learn new words in a fun way.
With the holiday season coming up, this is the perfect game to keep the whole family entertained for hours.
